Where did summer go???

I have no clue!  We've been busy since our last post, but nothing terribly noteworthy.  We spent a weekend in Michigan at Pattybunkport (some of you will get the inside joke) with Derek's family.  We then drove to Virginia for a family gathering of sorts with my dad's family.  We had a good time and it was nice to see everybody, but it was a very long drive.  We were gone 5 days and drove on 4 of those days (here to Salem on Thursday, Salem to VA Friday, VA to Salem on Sunday, and Salem back home Monday).  The following are pictures from our visit to Michigan...Unfortunately, I have no pictures from our VA visit.

We actually had some company in August!!!  We were so excited that people came to visit.  Brian, Heather and Landon (Derek's brother) came for a weekend.  Unfortunately Delaney was quite sick.  Her fever kept spiking to 105 and she was vomiting whenever it reached those heights (Advil and Tylenol only helped a little).  Turns out she had a UTI, but Landon ended up throwing up on his trip home.  Our other visitors were Jess and her two kids.  They were here for a whole week!!!  We had a good time just hanging out here and going to the pool and shopping.  Nothing terribly exciting, but it was great to see her.  Again, no pics.  I've gotten really bad with the camera:(

Jake has pretty much recovered from his surgery.  He still won't put much weight on the leg, but we can tell he's more comfy.  However, it's the time of year when his allergies kick in.  Off to the vet we went today to get some prednizone.  Hopefully he'll feel better soon.  He looks very sad.

Delaney starts kindy next Thursday.   She's very excited.  Derek and I are getting nervous, only because she's going to be thrown into a class where they only speak Spanish.  We know it will be great for her, but at first we know it will be hard on her.  She'll ride the bus in the morning, and then stay at school for an afterschool program.

I started school Monday and the kids started on Wednesday.  Every year I forget how difficult it is for the incoming 7th graders to open their lockers.  So many are clueless!!!  So we spend all of the passing periods on the 1st day helping out.  The second day is usually a little better, and today, I think I only had to open about 5 lockers.  Funny thing is (or not), most of the lockers I open are the kids I always (or I see other teachers) helping.  Our school started a uniform policy.  I was against it (still kind of am), but I do have to admit the kids do look really nice.  It's refreshing to not see all of the labels on their shirts.  So far my kids seem like good kids, but they can be quite deceiving the first week or two.  I am quite tired, but hopefully that will improve.

Derek will actually start a new position with Motorola on the 8th.  He's looking forward to a new challenge.  The only yucky thing is that his drive will be at least an hour long.  His view on that is the fact that it's only about 10-15 minutes longer than his drive is now.

We are all really excited that college football starts tomorrow!!!!  GO BUCKS and SPARTANS (but if they are playing each other, I say GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!)

The picture is from 2004......Delaney and I will both be wearing our OSU jerseys tomorrow.  I will post a pic!

Library Choices....

Last Saturday we took Delaney to the library to pick out some new books. Melissa and I sat in the chairs in the kids area and let Delaney have free reign. After 15 minutes of going up and down aisles she came back with the following three choices:

The Z was Zapped by Chris Van Allsburg
Little Owl by Piers Harper
Mom and Dad Don't Live Together Anymore by Kathy Stinson

Is she telling us something....
