Oops...he did it again

Jake, that is. He needs surgery on his OTHER knee for the same type of injury. He tore his ACL in his right knee just FOUR months after his last surgery. This time we know how it happened (unlike the other knee). I let him outside, and literally the second I did, Jake and I both saw the black cat. Jake loves to chase small furry animals (cats, squirrels, chipmunks, and whatever decides to wander into the yard. Since the last surgery, needless to say, we have avoid this activity whenever possible. However, as soon as he saw it, he took off. About 5 seconds after this, I heard the absolute worst hurt-dog noise ever. He hopped back to me (on three legs) with a sad look in his eyes. Bad thing is, his left leg (the surgically repaired one) isn't nearly strong enough to support him. When he sits down or tries to lay down, typically it turns into a fall-down. He's fallen down going down and up the stairs to go outside. He normally fights it if someone tries to carry him, but he's been letting Derek carry him up and down the stairs. He's a dog that follows you everywhere you go. The last few days since it happened, he's pretty much stayed put. At any rate, his surgery is scheduled for Thursday and we'll pick him up Friday. We are headed to MI for a wedding that night, and then to OH to visit Jess and Brett. My parents (thank goodness) have offered to meet us in Columbus and take Jake back to Salem with them so he can recover. If he were to stay here, he'd have to be in his kennel for at least 9 or 10 hours every day while I teach. He's normally not there, but b/c of the surgery, he's not supposed to have free reign. At my parents, he'll be taken care of much better than we would be able to do here, so thanks Mom and Dad.....We will keep everyone updated!

PS....Derek's on his way to MI to deposit some cans for extra money to pay for the surgery. We are hoping for a frequent patient discount with the surgeon.
